National-Firm Experience. Firsthand Employer Perspective.
Attorney Amie Scully provides practical employment counsel to California businesses and organizations. With more than two decades of experience, she helps employers navigate difficult workplace decisions, evaluate risk, develop strategy, and resolve disputes before they become more costly and disruptive.
Amie began her legal career after earning her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, consistently recognized among the nation’s top law schools. She developed her litigation and employment-law experience at nationally prominent law firms, including Am Law 100 firms and a leading management-side labor and employment practice. Her clients have included Fortune 500 companies, nationally recognized institutions, and businesses of all sizes across a wide range of industries. She has defended employers in significant employment disputes and secured favorable results, including summary judgment.
During her years in private practice, Amie handled matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, leaves of absence, disability accommodation, and wage-and-hour claims. Her work has included developing litigation and settlement strategy, taking and defending depositions, representing clients in mediation and arbitration, appearing in court, and preparing cases for trial. She also co-chaired a federal court trial during her first year of practice.
That experience informs the strategic judgment she brings to employer counseling today, including anticipating how workplace decisions may later be viewed by opposing counsel, a mediator, an arbitrator, or a court. She helps clients identify those risks early, weigh the available options, and make practical, defensible decisions before workplace problems become more costly and disruptive.
A Lawyer Who Understands What It Means to Run an Organization
Amie brings something different to her employment practice: the firsthand perspective of a founder and organizational leader.
In 2012, she founded a San Diego nonprofit serving students and families throughout the region. As its founder and CEO, Amie has managed many of the same challenges her employer clients face, including responding to changing laws and policies and making difficult decisions with limited time and resources.
Under Amie's leadership, Students Without Limits grew from a grassroots initiative into an award-winning nonprofit with staff, volunteers, school-based programs, and a broad network of community partners throughout San Diego County. Amie has trained more than 3,000 professionals on complex and sensitive legal and organizational issues. In 2025, Students Without Limits was recognized as San Diego County's Community-Based Organization of the Year.
This experience gives Amie a practical understanding of the pressures facing business owners, nonprofit executives, boards, managers, and HR professionals. She understands that sound employment decisions must work in practice, not just on paper. Legal compliance is only one part of the equation. Her advice also considers operational needs, workplace culture, financial realities, employee relationships, leadership concerns, and the organization’s broader mission and reputation.
